AMBASSADORS PREPARATORY
ACADEMY
Admissions Policy ()
1. Ambassadors Preparatory Academy is presently accepting applications for admission for the 2008-2009 school year.
2. A lottery will be conducted if
the number of applicants exceeds the number of available spaces.
The lottery will take place within 10 days after the closing
date of the application deadline. Each student will be assigned
a number, and a number will be selected at random by the Superintendent/Principal
or a designee under the supervision of at least two members
of the sponsoring entity and a notary public. It is the policy
of APA not to discriminate during the admission and lottery
process on the basis of gender, national origin, ethnicity,
religion, disability, academic, artistic, or athletic ability.
3. A waiting list will be developed
for all the applicants who were not admitted through the lottery.
As space becomes available, students not admitted through
the initial lottery will be selected from the waiting list
based on the date the application was received by APA. Whenever
space becomes available throughout the calendar school year,
applicants will be selected from the waiting list.
4. APA will grant returning students
priority in admission for the next school year; they will
be exempt from the lottery. The siblings of returning
students and/or the children of the school’s founders
will be given priority in admissions to the school and, therefore,
will be exempt from the general lottery process. This method
of prioritizing siblings will occur only so long as the total
number of students who are siblings constitutes only a small
percentage of the total enrollment of the school.
5. APA will accept applications that
are submitted outside of the designated application period.
All applications for admission will be date stamped.
Applications received outside of the designated application
period will be placed on the waiting list according to the
date in which it was received.
6. In accordance with TEC, §12.111(6),
Ambassadors Preparatory Academy will include in all of its
policies, brochures, advertisements, enrollment documents,
parent/student handbook, website, and any other appropriate
documents regarding the charter school a statement that the
school will not discriminate in admissions based on gender,
national origin, ethnicity, religion, disability, academic
ability, athletic ability or artistic ability or the district
the child would otherwise attend. The APA will reserve
the right to exclude students with a documented history of
a criminal offense, juvenile court adjudication, or discipline
problems under TEC Subchapter A, Chapter 37.
7. APA will not specialize in performing
arts. Therefore, APA will not require
applicants to demonstrate artistic ability for admission to
the school.
8. APA reserves the right to exclude
students with a documented history of a criminal offense,
juvenile court adjudication, or discipline problems under
TEC Subchapter A, Chapter 37. In addition, the APA
Board of Directors will adopt a code of conduct and
will submit enrollment policies and information for approval
by TEA staff during the contingency process.
9. Ambassadors Preparatory Academy requires applicants to submit the following information
in order to be considered for admission upon enrollment.
- Legal Name
- Current Home Address
- Parent/Guardian Name and Phone Number

- Date of Birth
- Social Security Number or State-Approved

10. Pursuant to Civil Action 5281
and in accordance with the state Student Transfer System (STS),
Ambassadors Preparatory Academy reports student transfers
on-line so that we are able to continuously monitor the
transfer status of students and ensure that we are in compliance
with Civil Action 5281. APA has an in-house
form which provides the same required data contained in the
original Student Transfer Form ACC-041BR01,
and utilizes the in-house version to collect data each year
on every student transfer. A copy of this document will be
maintained in student records for audit purposes. Information
on all student transfers will be reported to the STS system
not later than June 10th of each year.
